openSUSE Boosters Kick-Off
Saturday, October 3rd, 2009 by HenneWhat a week! The first ever openSUSE conference provided us, the multiplier team, with a great momentum to finally kick-off the team. So after a smooth Sunday on the conference with the nice lightning talks and Gianugo’s closing keynote we went for 4 days to some remote farm in the Franconian Switzerland to work on a plan of what we want to do and how we’re going to do it. This is my personal travelogue.

openSUSE Linux: What’s Working Well and What To Do With It
Monday, December 1st, 2008 by HenneSorry informationweek.com ICNR
Despite the fact that it’s been around since 1994, openSUSE Linux remains a work in progress. It’s not
perfect, nor does anyone pretend it is. The places where it needs the most immediate improvement are also a matter of debate: what’s crucially important to some is only marginally important to others. Still, there’s no question that there are key areas where openSUSE Linux is superior — not just adding individual features, but things that are actively functional. I’m going to run down several major areas where openSUSE Linux, as an operating system and as a platform, is cool.

Friday, September 19th, 2008 by HenneAs most of you should be aware of: the signing key for packman expired the day before yesterday. The team is very well aware of it and it will be fixed after the weekend (please don’t ask why not sooner
2008 FLOSS Media Center State of the Art Comparison Chart
Thursday, September 18th, 2008 by HenneThe Telematics Freedom Foundation just released an interesting comparsion chart on FOSS mulitmedia centers. Go check it out. Most of the multimedia centers mentioned there you find packaged for openSUSE in the packman repository. I at least know of MythTV (packaged by Herbert), Elisa (by Toni) and Freevo (by myself).
mhonarc RSS feeds
Wednesday, May 7th, 2008 by HenneBased on Dave Stragands mhonarc rss 2.0 config file and a slightly modified mha-preview i hacked up RSS feeds of our mailinglists. I just replaced the hand crafted HTML stripping in mha-preview with HTML::Entities::encode (i know HTML markup in RSS is considered evil, but so are kittens in some parts of the world!) and let it process the whole mail instead of an excerpt.
The feeds are not always valid for now, the HTML::Entities encoding seems to miss some parts sometimes. Might be invalid input as well. This needs some further investigation but you can already beta test it. Just point your RSS aggregator to
http://lists.opensuse.org/$LISTNAME/mailinglist.rss
If you have any problems please contact me. Have fun…
